6pm – Evensong (3rd Sunday)

On the 3rd Sunday of every month (except December) there is an Evensong (sung Evening Prayer from BCP) at 6pm at St Mary’s Church.

WHAT IS EVENSONG?

A good question – what’s it all about? What is the service like? Would I like it? Would I know how to follow it?

Evensong is also known as Evening Prayer and may be a spoken or sung service. Here at St. Mary’s most of the service, including hymns and psalms, is sung, led by the Churches in Harmony choir but is open to the congregation to join in. The order of service comes from the Book of Common Prayer, in the beautiful, poetic language of Cranmer, dating from 1662 but still relevant today. It is a simple mix of prayers, readings, music and a homily and is easy to follow from our booklet. An oasis of calm and an opportunity for reflection and prayer in our ancient church, set in the beautiful countryside, it is an antidote to the rush and bustle of everyday life and a chance to recharge our spiritual batteries before the start of the working week. Please do come along and experience it for yourself – you will be very welcome!
